    New local photo spot!

Well, new to me anyway:) I recently discovered I have a wilderness/conservation area of around 100ha less than 5 minutes from home, a well kept secret! I went there for a quick hike yesterday, to investigate if there are any photo opportunities and I was pleasantly surprised. The area used to...

    MPe-65 Macros

Stunning images Alistair! That lens really produces, looks like I need to put it on my shopping list! I assume the insects are posed? I am asking because of some of the leg/feet positions......

    Arax Tlit and shift lenses...?

Interesting! I see they also make/sell tilt adapters for standard Canon and Nikon lenses, I think I will order one......

    Seen in my garden

Thanks Kate! It is difficult to find a subject that sits still long enough for a shot! Yes, AI servo works well even for the smallest subjects, as long as the active focus point is mostly covered by the subject it will track it. AI servo also helps if you move forward or backward slightly, it...

    Macro with 5D II, 105mm and LR3

Kate, I love the way the sun lights up the subject! It makes it "pop"! The second image is stunning! I keep on going back to it for another look, well done and I think B&W is perfect here. I have also been playing with B&W lately, in the past I always preferred color but many images simply work...

    Loneliest picnic spot?

I agree 100% Hamish, I love places like that and that is why I always seem to be seeking them out. I was born in Namibia so maybe it is in me? Anyway, would love to spend a year or so in Alaska, "off the beaten track"..... As far as isolated places go I have been to a few, including 28 months...

    Loneliest picnic spot?

:) Yes, that or worse! Lots of skeletons around, and then there are the stories of the ghosts...... I have camped along the Skeleton coast and not seen anyone at all for weeks, and at night, in your tent when the wind is blowing and the fog had moved in you hear strange noises

    Sunset from my patio.

Thanks Ralph! Yes, I also like #3 a lot, it was quite a long exposure since it was quite dark already, the only shot in this collection shot from a tripod.

    Loneliest picnic spot?

Yes Pete, at least no rubbish around! Hmmm, windy, you have no idea Ralph, it has some of the most harsh weather you can find, I have seen a car sand blasted right down to the bare metal in one stormy night!

    Loneliest picnic spot?

Can this be the loneliest and most desolate picnic spot on the planet? Overlooking a cold and often angry Atlantic ocean this picnic spot on the Namibian Skeleton Coast is seldom used! Hundreds of miles from the closest civilization it made for a nice break on a recent trip I made up the...

    Sunset from my patio.

Yes I am privileged Hamish, but like all things it comes at a price..... The no-fly zone is quite funny, sometimes I wonder if my better half knew that when we were looking for a place....

    Sunset from my patio.

It is always sad when the open areas disappear, fortunately we have plenty permanent green conservation areas in my city, but it is still a city. I am fortunate that it is not easy to see the neighbors from my place, only spot I can is from the pool area but even there you have a 10' wall in...

    Sunset from my patio.

Thanks Pete! I wish I could take a photo from above but since I live close to a large air force base (Waterkloof) it is a no-fly zone. There is hope though, we (my flying school/club) have managed to arrange a fly-in to the airbase later this year, I am planning to route to the air base via my...

    Sunset from my patio.

Thanks Hamish! I do not have a complete photo of my garden, the vegetation is far to dense for anything more than small area shots. I have more than 300 different species of indigenous plants in my garden with many species represented by several samples. In many ways it is an urban forest with...
