obviously the second is darker but the shadows are more accentuated

I think I prefer the first one because the greater illumination of the background detail and the pit lane road suggest that he is part of something bigger. In the second one, with everything else slightly more obscured and he larger in the frame, I find it hard to get past him,...if that makes any sense.

The first one for me, I like the slightly brighter image showing a tad more light on ground and wall to the right. Which lens length was that shot with......?......very wide...........very effective..........!

I guess it depends on what you want to use the image for but I prefer the first. It seems to have more context and I like the contrast between his face and the sky / buildings more.
