While driving to see family in Lubbock, Texas on July 4, 2014 I passed a rest area about 8 miles outside the town of Post, Texas. The scene I saw there was too much for me to pass up. Two teenage boys, in a large boat resting on a trailer with a tire missing, imagining as if they were anchored somewhere on a lake. The juxtaposition of anchored boat against the flat and barren landscape seemed ripe for a photo.
I asked them if they would mind me photographing them and they were more than happy to oblige my request. To get the desired perspective I climbed to the roof of my van. I wish someone would have photographed me up there. I've shot from there several times. During the process of my photo shoot a train passed by just behind the boat. It seemed the perfect touch to complete the quirky scene.
I got their contact info and gave them digital files for their instagram accounts. I'm always on the lookout for something just a little off beat and not to be repeated moments.
