Used to spend weekends shooting a targets at the bottom of the garden, usually matchsticks and getting to knock the head off at just over 20meters. Pocket money went on tins of pellets, then occasionally wee'd be allowed to use an old pump action .22 rifle which held lots of bullets as I remember. Having lots of animals so rats were often the target and the reason to had the firearms license. In fact back then most boys had air rifles some very good and powerful ones which would get you a pheasant quite easily at 50metres or more . They were favoured for poaching, very quite. The photo has brought back those memories.
