The tourists arrive in abundance through the summer with a synergy taking place for a multitude of reasons and outcomes. There are those that rely solely on their chosen profession and enjoy their independence. Others mingle and survive the winters as independent traders yet take the influx as an open opportunity to help themselves to see out the lean months. It is diverse, dynamic, energetic and interesting to observe. Mevagissey is crowded in this short time. Car parks have queues, street are full of browsers, fish and chip shops in full swing, the vanilla ice creams dropped on the street scooped up by the gulls. Yet unlike many small fishing villages it does have a central core serious industry, fishing, which enables it to still retain an identity, for even those who were never or no longer involved.
