That's one nifty little place, I'd say. I like how the color of the house stands out against the misty sky and dark partially snow covered ground and trees.

What an interesting place Davie. Was it originally a chapel or was it purpose-built. Would you consider correcting the verticals - I quite like the tilt though.

I was actually underneath it , there wasn't a way to get level at all... as for the verticals, I could do it in Photoshop but I don;t have photoshop lol and aperture doesn't do that

It is quite fresh yeah, It was taken near Balmoral and to get there I had to drive over Glenshee which is totally snowed up with all the ski bunnies out
wasn't overly cold though, sitting just about freezing

I feel i'll have to take your word for that Dan, though i 'think' that Balamory is based on the real town of Tobermory, could be wrong though lol

Yeah, there is a lot of pink houses around here, it must be traditional though as it tends to be listed buildings that are painted pink. There are also a few yellow ones dotted about too.

it was pure luck , I saw a sign for 'Linn of Dee' and Linn is a waterfall so I just had to find it didn't I lolol.... VERY dodgy hike getting to it that very nearly turned sour in a bad bad way but all in all a good fall

I had to re-read that Paul. I thought you said there were some pink house will yellow dots on around!!
The BS name for the colour is actually Suffolk Pink. It was originally a lime wash coloured with blood and was quite durable once carbonised (can you tell I used to work in the coatings industry and have just finished a 3 year project on calcium hydroxide?!!).

Oh, don't, my uncle used to work for a paint manufacturer and often used to tell me all about the different paints and how they were formulated, whether I wanted to hear about it or not. I did used to get free paint though so that was a bonus. Some of it was quite expensive.

Probably going too far off topic, so I apologize. However, "Milk paint" was a common thing in the Americas in the 18th century. Old red wooden barns, ubiquitous in rural America, were typically painted with milk paint in the early days, and it is said the paint was tinted red with the blood of the slaughtered farm animals. (I built a windsor chair a few years back and by tradition such chairs were painted using milk paint. Green was probably the most common windsor chair color here in the Americas, as windsor chairs were originally concieved as garden chairs, first in England and later in the colonies. I decided to make my own milk paint for my windsor chair and that's how I learned this off topic stuff.)

Probably right Brian. The casein acts as the binder and I guess that the blood proteins would do similar as well as adding a red/brown colour.
