Another new camera arrived...

The Ebay suggestions algorithm has me figured out pretty good. I seen a Canon F1 pop up in the "You may like" section - and since I am not a big Canon guy - that led me down a rabbit hole.I learned there was three versions. The last version was made 1981-1992 as a "tribute" to the old F-1 - and is Canon's last manual focus SLR.

After reading on it a bit, seeing that Ken Rockwell hate it - I started looking for one.

I bought what appeared to be a nice one off E-Bay - and it arrived today. Nice doesn't describe the condition - I don't think it has had more than a handful of use. I have a 50mmF1.4 on the way, as well as an adapter for M42 lenses as I think this will be a great camera paired with the excellent TTArtisan 75mmF1.5 lens.

Paul, I have a 1984 Olympic Edition of this camera that I still shoot with. I wrote a tribute about my camera for 35mmc. Here's the link https://www.35mmc.com/29/09/2024/5-frames-40-years-1-camera/ I've never read what Ken Rockwell said about this camera and I don't care what he said. I have nothing but wonderful memories and an archive of negatives that I would put up against any other camera.

My first recommendation is get the Speed Finder. Best purchase I ever made. It will rotate to a waist level finder in a split second. This camera is so easy to shoot with and it feels like an extension of my arm. I shot hundreds of rolls of Kodachrome over the years and used a grid focus screen when shooting with my 35 tilt & shift lens.

Boy, it looks to be in mint condition. I think you have some great times ahead shooting with this camera.

What a super find. I have never owned a Canon camera (but have way more Nikons than sense!), but a friend has a fair few and has always used them although I have never seen him with a DSLR and seems to use Sony for digital.

Looking forward to seeing some shots with it.

Love the ‘battery box’! :)

I will pick up a speed finder for it - thank you for the suggestion! I was surprised at the condition when it arrived - but I did pay on the upper end of the market for it (and glad I did in this case.) Excellent article as well!

I was sorely lacking in the Canon department when it comes to my "collection" - so I figured if I was going to buy a Canon this was probably a solid choice. I ordered a 50mmF1.4 as well, which should arrive Monday.

I have a bunch of those boxes to organize - ones for batteries, lens/body caps, 35mm related tools, medium format related tools, filters and lens hoods, etc. One of my shelves in my "home office" (the dining room we never use...) is adjustable so I have two shelves with just enough of a gap to slide the boxes in and out. It works well, and makes finding things easy.
