I once had a chap in the shop asking for auto zoom
It took a few moments to work out that he was referring to a zoom controlled by a button on the back of the camera and not manually ... I couldn't convince him that rotating a ring around te lens was easier to control
It all made a little bit more sense when he traded in an Olympus Om101 with a PF 35-70 lens
