Technical perfection here Julian. For me do I find the blacked surround creates a harsh contrast and lacks a sympathy for the little poppy. Maybe I feel this way having already seen the earlier mono shot with the more supporting background.
I think I agree with Tom about the solid black and wonder if warmer tone or grain might reduce the 'contrast'. What do you think? Love the lighting and tones of the seed head though.

Thank you Tom and Pete. You know when I posted it I said exactly the same to myself and thought about toning the black down a touch. Had a doc's appointment, had to rush, so no time to do so. You are both spot on.
