Balloch School, Glen Nochty

Not my image...obviously...given that it was taken in 1900...

Stopped off at this building, or whats left of it, for some nibbles whilst out for a cycle ride.

Not a lot left, with the roof gone and the walls starting to crumble.

I had heard it had allegedly once been a small school for the children of crofters and estate workers at the head of the glen, but thought it to be urban myth...

How wrong I was...

I will return some day armed with a camera to try and capture what still stands of this grand seat of learning...

Superb Doug, just love this type of image. The day when the camera determined how the set was too be, everyone lined up or seated and undoubtedly asked to stay still for a short while. I remember well even though I am not 100 yet ,when our village schools were such a size, sadly all closed now which entails a lot of travelling for the larger alternative establishments although some are very good.

I'll certainly try and get there this weekend, but because of the topography I might have to utilise a (gulp) wide angle lens...
