Today i think is the Islamic festival of Eid.

The magnetic black cube represents the Kaaba in Mecca,the iron filings the pilgrims.

Literally interpreted the black cube
(originally a smallish black stone housed in a structure rebuilt various times since legend has it Abraham) is what Muslims pray towards.
Esoterically, the black stone represents one of our subtle levels of consciousness.

before i read your description i was drawing parallels with the trees knocked over in russia by the meteor strike in 1908 and earlier this year. really interesting photos.
