Perhaps the most beautiful mosque in the world, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque has one main dome, six minarets, and eight secondary domes. It was built from 1609 to 1616, and is considered to be the last great mosque of the classical period. The architect, Sedefkâr Mehmed Ağa was a student of Mimar Sinan. I was granted a special permit to go up to the minarets before sunrise and photograph this magnificent place inside out all day long.

Thanks, Brian.

No this was my magic of getting permission for all the mosques in Istanbul for a book publication for 1999.
Olympus OM-3 with Zuiko lens, slide film.

What a beautiful photograph, and a beautiful building. I think I'd like to see that in person.

Thank you, Rob. Yes, they were two children books on the history of theaters and mosques.

Thank you very much, Milan.

Thank you very much, Lesley. How lovely that you and your parents visited Istanbul. Aya Sofia is an amazing place. The history and the change in that are in 2000 years is fascinating. :)

Thank you very much, Andrew. The whole experience of that area including the Grand Bazaar is worth the trip.
I'd imagine Rob, having studied there a while, might have seen quite a bit.
I heard that they replaced the carpets of the Blue Mosque recently. I have not seen it yet.
