BLUE MOSQUE

[Nihat Iyriboz]

Perhaps the most beautiful mosque in the world, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque has one main dome, six minarets, and eight secondary domes. It was built from 1609 to 1616, and is considered to be the last great mosque of the classical period. The architect, Sedefkâr Mehmed Ağa was a student of Mimar Sinan. I was granted a special permit to go up to the minarets before sunrise and photograph this magnificent place inside out all day long.

Stunning photograph Nihat and it brings back wonderful memories. I was in Istanbul with my parents when I was about 18 and although we didn't go inside the Blue Mosque, we did do Aya Sofia

I'd imagine Rob, having studied there a while, might have seen quite a bit.
I heard that they replaced the carpets of the Blue Mosque recently. I have not seen it yet.
