Thanks Beth!
Yesterday I shot some bald eagles. After I was done with my edits, I thought that I'd give upscale a try from within Topaz Photo AI (not Gigapixel). I've posted the extents of the "as shot" 20mp mFT original image as well as the upscaled edit (as well as a FastStone comparison of the original edit v. the upscale) over at DPReview: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/68096459

Now everything is clear to me! In those photos, the details were simply meaningless. Unfortunately, the artificial intelligence is still at an early stage.

Since you commented here, I'm assuming you went to the link on DPReview?

The only eagle that was upscaled is the one called: 10tpzupx2x1800.jpg

The original shot ought to give you an idea of how far away the eagle was being the primary reason for a lack of detail.

None of the other eagle shots that were specifically posted here were upscaled, they were simple severe crops.
