that first photo looks like pure hell to me. i hate crowds like that. nice shots of the kids, they look like they're having fun.

I can't think anybody who likes crowds ... with the exception of maybe pickpockets ... (pickpocketers? ... those who pick pockets). But there is a lot going on the Santa Monica Pier ... a Fun Zone, restaurants, shops, vistas, breezes and no parking.
