Carl Zeiss Polarising Filter

Hello folks.
For some time I have had a Carl Zeiss DDR M49P polarising filter in the draw (came with a charity shop buy.)
I have never used one before, but understand they are great with digital cameras on landscape shots? I would be grateful for any tips on this, as basic as how to set such a filter up!
