were do i start :-(

was out taking pics all day yesterday, i just been looking at photos this morning and noticed this black mark over around 20 pics out of the 300 -400 i took yesterday. Its doesn't appear over the first say 30 photos of the day, but it does appear over the next 20 pics all taken consecutively then it kinda goes and didn't appear at all again all day.

it does appear in the same place each time, regardless or landscape or portrait mode :confused::(

now i was changing lens but it looks a bit big and scary & very unlike any dust bunnies i had experienced before GULP

Later on in the day i have also notice a very faint perfect circle that is see through yet with a harder border / edge this is exactly over the center focus point in view finder, it does not move if i move the focus point.

it doesnt show up in any of the photos thought no dust bunnies at all.

would love to know your thoughts on all this........... thinking of ranting to amazon as i only bought it on 4th April

cheers for your thoughts

Hi Daz, looks like the usual Nikon/other makes sensor problem, more likely to be grease/oil from the shutterbox assembly, the D600 & all the others have had it to as well as the Canon 5D mkII which was prone to it as well.A good 1st clean should sort it out as long as they do the internals as well, other than that get it back to r=the dealer though if Amazon a bit harder & longer without the camera body, we had to exchange a D600 just recently because of sensor marks, it is the way of the world these days.Regards the large blob that could be a flake off the mirror box wall & might dislodge itself during a clean.
Sorry
Andy

Unfortunately, the dust/grease problem is part of DSLR ownership. I also had to send my 5D2 in for a thorough clean after 2 weeks of purchase due to grease/oil issue.

Using a zoom lens will unavoidably "suck" the dust into the camera housing over time as you zoom in and out, regardless how carefully you change lenses. As Andy said, grease/oil from the shutter box assembly is another possible cause of the problem.

I eventually learned to live with it, clean minor dust using an air blower, or correct dust spots in software. If the problem gets really bad, I would (personal choice) send it to a reputable repair center to have a deep clean.

It is deffo off the mirrorbox housing as this happens now with every new camera due to over zealous work men, only way is to get it PRO cleaned by someone like our guy who does the whole job including sensor, he is in on site from Mid day on a Friday if it helps, £36.00 for a crop sensor, it is checked before, during & after clean & he does mine, I would not trust mine to anyone else LOL

That does look like a fairly large "dust bunny." Can you see it on your sensor when you look inside?

I use a Rocket Blower to blow the dust off my sensor. That works well for most of the stuff that accumulates there. Won't help with oil or grease but any loose stuff, that often comes with changing lenses, can be blown away. I also blow the dust off the mirror from time to time.

cheers guys thing is this has gone now..............!!

it was only present yesterday for 20 ish pics, 100 prior and 200 after it had vanished, hope it dont come back

i been onto Nikon support via chat, they denied having seen anything like it, wanted it back for inspection then they could quote for fix..................not sure if to send it back to amazon for replacement just in case.............!!

what you thoughts on this??

the small ring very faint doofer i can see under central focus point (when i shift it off center) is a nikon thing and meant to be there, talked to other D7100 owners and they have it to, Nikon support say all Nikons have it.....

Daz

Remember with film cameras you get a perfect dust free sensor for every frame
