The second is a bit noisy but the first has a delightful softness.

Interesting. I actually much prefer the graininess of the second shot but the banding noise is a distraction. Is that with banding noise reduction at its maximum in SPP?

It never went through SPP, Pete. It's just a jpeg. But I have the raw file, and could try that. These days I shoot Raw plus Fine, using the jpgs for online showing and giving myself a quick idea of the possibilities. If I get something worthwhile I go back to the raw file and start again.

Experimenting is a good thing, Rob. You learn a lot, come up with something new, even if it's just new for you, and we get to enjoy the results.
