Experience using Canon FD lense on EOS...

One of the only parts left of my film days is my favorite lense...Canon 17mm 1:4. I have an adapter coming just to see if I can use it on my 40...or 7D. Anyone have any experience with something like this?

I don't use any FD lens, but I do use a PB and an m42 mount lens, everything is fine, obviously you're stuck to your manual aperture control + focus, and limited to your M, Av & Tv modes , and naturally your viewfinder & screen darken when you stop down. And your EXIF data will show f00 (or at least mine do, I think). Also when entering movie mode, you'll get a warning pop up, telling you that to get best results you need to attach a lens... you have to press the 'record' button once to let the camera know that a lens is attached, but all is then normal.
I love my PB lens, it's my everyday/most situation lens. And as much as I love it, and how great it is, sometimes I'd like to just have an AF lens (but that's because I have bad eyesight in both eyes, so focusing is tricky for me [everything is blurry to me], and it's even trickier to focus with a dark viewfinder). And so, the other half is getting me the canon 50 1.4 for my birthday in May. :D

Even when I have it though, Ill still use the PB one, perhaps when I feel the safety of the 50 1.4 to be compromised :D

The EF mount flange back distance is 2mm longer than that of FD. Unless you have some sort of corrective element in the mount adapter you won't get infinity focus.
You are also looking at the equiv of about 27mm f4 lens ...
So, a fairly slow wide angle lens that won't focus close to infinity.... Not ideal :/

Thank you for the write up Adam. Good info that will help.

Thank you Hamish. Maybe I'll just use it for macro's. At least I'll some fun with. Maybe I'll just have to go find me a film body?
