A bit of a departure from what I have been doing lately but I have just bought Sebastiao Salgado's Genesis and wanted to try my hand at some black and white photography. It is a lovely book by the way, big, thick and heavy too and the quality is really good.

I love that Salgado book, but have only leafed through it in Waterstones. Even the peasants version is expensive - but worth it.

Paul, that image is superb! Being nitpicky, I'd like to see the tree bang in the middle a little straighter, true north, as the horizon looks off as a consequence. But otherwise it is perfection.

Thank you all. Rob, I think you are right about the askew tree. I thought the same thing but couldn't be sure if the tree wasn't straight anyway in real life. Yes, it does make sense to straighten it though.

beautiful. i'd love to see this one printed bigger, i get the feeling web sized doesn't do all of the little details in this shot justice.

I have increase it as much as I can due to the size I uploaded the image but I know what you mean it did look better in LR at full size. I have printed A3 first on a cotton rag paper which is quite yellow and not particularly high contrast. Then I tried a satin paper which was much better. I would love to print it on some kind of bright pearlescent paper.

That works really well doesn't it? I love the textures in this and the narrow range of tones. I can imagine it really would be wonderful if you can find the right paper.
