First Shots - Dp3 Merrill

This just arrived a few minutes ago. Delighted. Ran out into the garden (I don't have a lot of time before a student arrives) and took these. All hand-held, and it was quite breezy, so I'm amazed I got any clarity.

A little bit of contrast, exposure and light editing in Sigma Photo Pro. Size reduced and conversion to jpeg in Elements 11.

So now you have all there varieties of Merrill, right Rob? You seemed to be shooting the DP2 more than the DP1. I wonder what happens now that you have the 3? I need one,...but I don't know which one. Although I think it will be between the 1 and the 2.

Bonnie flooer foties, by the way.

Thanks, Brian. It's a good question - three cameras, which to choose for any given situation? If I've only room for one, the DP2 would cover most cases. The 3 is reputedly a good portrait lens, but, of course, it can lend itself to many situations, and Julian has shown it can work great even in landscape. In my mind, I associate the 1 with landscapes, but it also has uses elsewhere - Julian used it for the in-situ portraits of the old Scottish, toothless guy (not sure if he was toothless, but there is something about which I'm connecting with gums!). So, I'm looking forward to taking the same subject - sometimes - with all three, just to see the pros and cons of each. I obviously really like the camera. But I imagine the 2 will still get most usage.

Excellent Rob, excellent.

Ffordes hopefully have a delivery this afternoon and with the COS's blessing, one has my name on it. Hurrah!
I pulled a blinder getting her a Babylock Evolution from David Drummond and at the moment I can do no wrong.:)

However, I am mindful of how close I am to the 'tearing the arse out of it' line that before she finishes her next curtain I will quickly order a Marumi DHG 200 off Amazon.

(I have just fitted a GGS 3" LCD protector (£3.8 on Amazon) to Marmite. It is an almost exact fit except for the bottom of the LCD where it stops short just above the Merrill script.)

Rob, how about taking a shot of the exact same subject, and if possible same settings and conditions with each Merlin. Might be interesting.

Sorry have just read your post above with your intention to do something like this.

Be warned kind Sir. "I need one" are the exact three words I uttered to the COS. Spooky or what?

Merrillitise is as contagious as a very contagious thing.

It turns sane and honourable men into scheming oiks who will do anything to deceive their loved ones and exposes you to card write-times that allow you pop to the pub for a swift pint and snifter and return just in time to take another photo. I love this disease.

Good news Rob, only wondered yesterday that it maybe with you soon. Yes the guy was toothless , and as fate has it so am I :(, just waiting on a replacement. How these things come a and bite you.
Looking forward to more images. I've been wanting to take a few fluer images myself but this wind at the moment is a spoiler. You did well.

Looking good Ron and that first shot is super in any case. I agree with your thoughts that the DP2 is probably the all-rounder of the bunch: but then I don't have a DP1. I used the DP3 in HK to great effect and the focal length proved perfect for long streets, details and the harbour.
