Going to Glacier Park

I'm spending the month of August in Glacier Park. Does anyone have any good suggestions for places to go and things to see. I'm a avid hiker so want to photo some of the places off the main roads a bit.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

sorry, i don't have any real suggestions. i've heard avalanche gorge is nice, and there's a place called triple falls in logan pass, but it's restricted access. when i visited glacier np it was mostly under construction, a lot of the parking areas on going to the sun road were closed and we were behind a construction pilot car the entire time. it was also pouring down rain the whole day. we saw a couple of big horn sheep up close, but not much of anything else.

last i heard the going to the sun road was closed again due to landslides, you may want to check the national park's news website as you get closer to make sure it will be open.. have fun on your trip.

I live close to Glacier National Park and visit there often. The landslide debris was cleaned up in two days and all roads are presently open.

There are so many places to photograph in Glacier it would be impossible to describe them all. There are some good hiking guides to the park and all are available at the various park stores and visitors centers. The east side of the park usually offers spectacular sunrise photographs. There is more open country there and plenty of places to shoot.

Logan Pass is great both early in the morning and late in the evening. So many folks are there in the mid day its almost unbelievable and really difficult to get a parking place. But after around 4 pm when the light starts to get nice they all leave.

There is construction on Going to the Sun Road on the west side but that should not limit your photography. The park is big. Since you say you are planning on spending a month I recommend visiting as many different areas as possible.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.
