Going wide.....

I'm looking into an ultra wide angle lens...... On a mega budget. :)
This one I I'm looking at is a Cosina 19-35mm OM fit, now, Would this be 9.5-17.5mm on my Oly as its a 4/3 sensor? It's a budget lens and I'm fully aware that results are not going to be crystal sharp, however, I really want it for the wide angle part of it, and a bit of fun.
Does anyone know if the focal length is what I'm hoping for that lens? Will it really be that wide??
Thanks folks :)

No, I'm afraid it will be the equivalent of a 38-70mm...
Are you using an adapter to attach the lens or does it come with a 4/3 mount?

I'd like to get myself a decent 4/3 wide-angle but haven't found anything within budget yet.
I wonderig whether to use an old Oly prime and a 4/3 adapter.

Mind you, it just says OM fit, that's what makes me assume it's the 35mm film format.

It is 35mm format, it would be an ultra wide on a 35mm I'm camera

Your current lens is 14mm at the wide end, this les is 17mm ... So less wide

You need somthing that is wider than 14mm
Eg
Olympus - ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 7-14mm 1:4.0

Focal length is a constant, it's the size of the photosensitive surface that alters the effect of the focal length

(sorry about today, I ended up in the pub until 4.30 this morning!!! 4.30!!! Madness I know ... )

Wow. That is a useful chart! Thanks for that ade, got that one saved.
Right, thought I understood this conversion malarky.
My standard lens (14 42) at its widest would be 28-84mm equivelant. So, if I purchased a prime 24mm OM 2.8 (from of course a 35mm slr) and whacked it on my Oly dig, then that would be a... In affect a 12mm (in digital terms) making it pretty wide.
Does this theory still apply to this Cosina as its an OM fit? Just looking at the optics of the lens and it looks like its not far from a fisheye. Lol. I dunno.... I'm sure it was sugar I put on my cereal this morning..... :D :D

Haha, must of posted that as I was writing my last one Hamish.
Yeah, that 7-14mm is pretty dam impressive, it has been described as one of the best super wide angle lenses out there, therefore carrying a whopping price tag... Cheepest one I can find is 1300 spackeroonies! Lol
4:30!!!!!! Cheeseus Christopher!!! You party animal' :D :D

i'd love one of those, it'd be perfect for landscapes :)
