From today's stroll through Stockbridge - when I wasn't lurking in a tunnel for unsuspecting passers-by. Not sure what that bird is in the second, but it was very good at keeping still, until someone got too close.

Looks like a Heron to me. I really like the first shot. That streaky cloud and the direction of the branches adds real menace to the building I think. I also like the layers of fence and railings although I'd be tempted to burn the bottom in a bit..

The shot of the Heron is very interesting as well with the snaking line of the boardwalk, the vertical leaves then the neck of the bird. However, I would be tempted to crop the image just above the top railings to keep the focus on the bird and the near symmetry of the water between the plants and the boardwalk. What do you think?

I've just made the first a little bigger. The trees look scared of the building, and the somewhat menacing sky are interesting, but what are those bricks doing sticking out the edge of the wall?! Somebody didn't quite follow the architects plans very closely!

Yes, the heron shot needs chopping...

Love the second photograph, Rob. A wonderful composition. :) A winding path for a straight flying heron's curiosity...

I'm not sure I agree with the word menace in Pete's comment ... There is a feeling that sort of image puts across, but I don't know quite the word ... I don't think it's menace though ... I do like it!
