On a technical note, I don't know how to get rid of the digital artefacts: the shadow around the trees. Any tips?

That is a fine picture, very atmospheric. I really like that.
The only way I know of to fix artefacts is to zoom in close in your paint programme and use a small smooth tool, slow painstaking work.

Yes, just a perfect day!
Did you use Glamour Glow? That causes the darkening sometimes. If so, try a few negative control points to lessen it behind the twigs.
