Good call, Dave. I've spent the last couple of hours with my mother-in-law, looking through online records of her brothers, cousins, uncles, friends, who died at the Somme and suchlike. Really harrowing stories. The men and women fighting in the 1st WW, often didn't know why they were fighting, but those in the 2nd WW certainly knew they were resisting fascism. War is just beyond expression. Lets not forget those poor sods, the ones who gave their lives, and the ones who returned deeply affected, their lives ruined. I know one uncle who spent his post-war years in one room, shaking in constant fear. Poor sod. Poor sods.

Thanks guys - here's what I wrote in my blog...

It's Remembrance Parade Day and I was on official duty for the Mayor's Office.

A good turn out and amazingly after a day of monsoon and hail conditions yesterday - the sun came out - not a cloud in the sky!

A two camera job this one - as I didn't want to be faffing about changing lenses and causing a distraction. It's always a difficult shoot this. Trying to record the event yet not get in the way. I chose the D700 with Nikon 70-300mm VR and the D800 with Nikon 24-70mm F2.8.

This is my favourite shot of the day I think. Harry, one of (maybe the only now) Wigan's D-Day veterans, all of about 5 foot of him, in solemn mood at the Cenotaph. Credit to Michelle from the local press who was shooting at the side of me for spotting the shadow and giving me the heads up on a nice element to a shot.
