Another snapshot from my recent summer — this one taken on a busy Adriatic beach, just after sunset.
These spaces, out of time, exhausted after a long, crowded day of raucous shouting, blaring music, bare bodies on display and shrill childish voices, slip into a state of silent ecstasy. A meditative, bodiless rest, as if someone had switched the world off for a while.
As though you’d been set down in a tiny, reconstructed village, geometries and silk roads slowly begin to emerge.
The quiet we are dreaming of. The nonsensical nightmare that scares us.
