Manual Focus Portrait - Rhona

Trying to go completely manual on the X-E1 for a while. Here's Rhona, close up, with the 18-55mm lens at 55, aperture f4. Looking at the exif data, I noticed it says Compression: JPEG (old style). I've noticed this before. What is new style jpeg, and how does it differ, and where can one get it, and is it worth getting, etc?

Used Nik Silver for BW, using an uploaded filter called Centre Focus (or Center), then into Nik colour to add Classic Soft Focus and Glamour Glow. Tried to keep a natural look despite the editing. Rhona was wearing foundation cream.

All constructive criticism welcome.

I like this a lot Rob. Rhona is going to hate that I point out her freckles, especially where they meet her lips and I think this to be a lovely detail. I also like that for an independent viewer the portrait is just a tiny bit too close. One feels that one is intruding into her private space; it makes the portrait both compelling and slightly uncomfortable to view I find. Excellent stuff.

Spot on, Pete, so to speak, regarding the freckles, but also about the closeness. It never crossed my mind, but I would never go that close with, say, my students or anyone else. Point taken.

Rob, your daughter makes this image beautiful. :) You have captured her true confidence in you. This is a rare close-up occasion.

I'm with Nihat on this. (Which is not to say I'm not with Pete.) But anyway, the frankness and openness in her approach to the fotie speaks completely to her confidence and poise. I think its delightful.

Thanks, Nihat and Brian. She tolerates me :)

Not great bokeh with this lens, but it's great for day to day stuff. Looking forward to the 56mm f1.4 lens to arrive on the scene.

Still don't know what old style jpg refers to...

Whoa!! Doesn't she look like you!!
I like it... I have a habit in getting right up in my daughters grill with a camera, so these type of shots I can't criticise.
Brilliant
