Not Bin Liner in this case - but the sun setting through the gateway to the ocean - La Jolla CA.

Nearly got washed away by high tide, but managed to stay put, beat off some photographers that turned up at the last minute, and get the shot!

1st shot for me too, its the pattern in the water that makes it so much different from the 2nd. I think some people find landscape shots with sunsets a bit cliche but I like them. They're the short of shot you just enjoy them for what they are. I imagine that as you live in the USA you were all armed and it soon turned into a turf war with a massive shoot out and war planes bombing cities. Doesn't that happen all the time out there?

Nice I like it, I'm impressed with the thought that has gone into it.

On a Bin Laden side note , Elton John is releasing his special Candle in the wind anti-tribute to Bin Laden..."sandals in the bin"

Vic - I would have liked a better sky, i.e. some nice clouds, but you have to go with what nature gives you on the day :)

If I had to do it again I'd roll up my trousers and wear flip-flops before setting up for the shot - I got my Doc Martens wet!

I'm going to steal your BL one liner ;)

Pete/Paul - I'd been waiting 90 mins, standing off to one side on a higher area of sand as the sea was washing over the key shooting spot every few minutes. This guy turns up with his tripod, completely ignores me standing there with tripod/camera ready to go - and just starts setting up to take the key spot with 10 mins till sunset. I had to wander over and have a quiet word - then when he got chased off by a big wave, I moved in to take poll position and decided that I'd just stay put and get wet if required. He had a slight ***** that he'd 'missed his shot' - I mentioned that he should have got here 90 mins earlier if he was that fussed.

Unfortunately there's only the one spot to place the camera, and a few moments when the sun is right.

I left before any weapons play...

I did have SWMBO with me, and she could have taken him down with a swift strike if required! ;) ;)

It's something you always have to think about here in the US - if you pi$$ someone off in traffic for instance, they could be armed!

I sometimes plan obsessively about sun placement when setting up a shot, but have never gone so far as to calculate the exact date before. Not even sure I'd know how. But glad somebody did. Nice shot!

Darren - I just used the free TPE software

http://stephentrainor.com/tools

Ran through the calendar and watched where the sun set at the Scripps Pier each day - figured out the first date for 2011 would be May 1st.

What I didn't do, is check tides - nearly had to abandon ship because of high tide - doh!

Great shot Chris. No. 1 for me too. You must have done a lot of "Pre-visualization" for this one eh?

Ta muchly :)
