I like the first very much Rob and think the composition balances very well especially with the density that you have applied to the tree. I love the shadow too. I also like the 'blasted' feel of the second (Greece in summer!) and the 'smokey' foliage. A shame about the edge artefacts though. You could probably either clone them out or use control points to limit the glow at those edges while retaining it elsewhere.
 
Thanks, Pete. You are making me aware of the edge artefacts, and I can't quite make up my mind whether they are necessarily a bad thing in the likes of this image. I was trying to get the whole structure humming (for want of a better word) with the energy of the sun. Hence the deliberate over exposing to the point of break up.

As an aside, when I was a young man of 20, I used to hitch hike through to Edinburgh from Dundee during the big arts festival here, and used to sleep beneath these pillars, usually a little inebriated. But I did save enough money to view the Mona Lisa, which was visiting one year.
