Most Popular Camera on Flickr

That is telling isn't it. I wonder how it correlates to some metric on value / quality of the image? Not in a technical way, but in an artistic way. Not that I'm suggesting that you can't take wonderful images with a phone but I wonder how much this reflects the sheer number of pictures being taken these days.

Haha. I don't think any two people would agree on that scale. I've seen some excellent photos from an iPhone, not mine, I hasten to add! They are certainly convenient, not just for taking images, but for editing via apps and sharing online. Some great art photography taken with them, for example: http://iphonephotographyschool.com/karen-divine/

Problem is, enlargement suffers. No matter how many pixels put into small sensors as that, so far anyway, shall have limitations. Showing on the net, pads, phones etc, no problem. Have you made by chance a wonderful image you want up on your wall, well be prepared to keep it small. The future may change it, whoever lives shall see.:D I see your call!

Very few phone photographers would even contemplate printing their images. The medium is perfect for online sharing and usage. And Flickr is an online community. I haven't seen anything yet that has given me the thrill of seeing printed photos by great photographers, but few people go to galleries to look at photos. The world has already changed, and the young ones would argue for the better. I take phone shots, but haven't taken one I like, so I don't take it seriously at all.

I think I am probably the last generation to have used film cameras in my youth. By that I mean disposable cameras, but you still had to be picky in what you wanted to image. Now with iPhones etc you can image anything and everything without thought. I expect the majority of the images taken on these phones are whatever the person ate for dinner or a #Selfie!
