the main difference i'm finding is the picture quality, I would have defended the Oly to the death but the picture quality of the Canon is SO much better. Maybe it's down to the camera or maybe it's down to the lenses but there is no denying the difference

The canon sensor is bigger better and newer ... The technology behind the sensor will no doubt be better too ...
My guess is the thing that's most noticeable is the apparent increase in "depth" of the image ... Looks more 3d straight out of camera??
That's what I find anyway, there seems to be a correlation between sensor size and depth of image ...
That was at least until Fuji brought out the xpro1 which seems to do that depth thing as good if not better than even ful frame cameras ...
All just IME/IMO/YMMV stuff of course

I know where you're coming from (apart from the x range fuji, still dislike them greatly) and only time will tell whether me and the Canon will make a good team
