Nearly a Nautilus

But actually a fake made from a cast.

This was taken using the DIYCam this evening in diffused daylight from an open shutter and one roof light. It was a 3 minute exposure at f/22. It is quite shiny and I could not help losing one of the highlights each time using Ilford Multigrade paper as the negative. What I have noticed is that the sensitivity of this changes during the day. Thinking about this it is not surprising as it is Multigrade paper and so the contrast varies with the wavelength of light illuminating it. This causes quite a swing in ISO (up to 2 stops or so it seems).

The image was taken close to maximum extension which gives an image ratio of about 1:2 and adds a stop or so to the exposure. After exposure the paper was developed in Ilford Multigrade Developer, fixed (Ilford Rapid Fixer) and washed before being dried using a roller dryer. The 'negative' was scanned using a Microtek Scanmaker 1000XL using Vuescan (which I'm stuck with at the moment until Lasersoft get a Mountain Lion version of theirs out). It does not produce as good scans as the Microtek software and I might re-install a Windows version of that on a virtual machine on the Mac Pro as it won't run native on Mountain Lion.

And that's not real? I'd of never known. Excellent shot besides.
