ON THE JETTY

Oh, I like these, certainly the first two. They overshadow the third in their oddness, which I like a lot. Good stuff, Julian. Intriguing.

I don't understand #1 Julian. Its like a shot of a television image. The other two are very sharp. Nice lens.
Interesting, yes the lines on the roof suggest a TV or a Polaroid shot, it is the roof tiles giving those lines, it was an out of focus shot of the Co-op, where the boats land, weigh sort and ice their catch for the lorry which comes each day to take them to market.
The lens, the Oly 75mm f1.8

I am as always it seems, the odd one out, as I like the last one. At first I couldn't quite understand why the omd em5 acts that way with such a lens. I just got one too, the 5 I mean. Did I hear a hark out there. I know where it came from:eek:

I dont understand Ivar, a few days ago you got the Oly 10. But maybe I do as I have quite a few camera's as well :rolleyes:and fully understand that we need better camera's to get better photo's ;)

As this person here is becoming of age and maybe wisdom, lighter quality tools shall always be of interest as I at the same time gets rid of the heavier stuff. Two Olys, one 10 and one 5 fairly equal in using, with a 45mm and a 25mm respectfully as well as a 75 - 300mm shall fulfill my needs:rolleyes: camera-wise as well as take care of any environmental downpour, EM 5 and it's 12 - 50mm which is not as bad as many thinks ). It just lacks a wide angle one right now albeit the 12 - 50 takes care of that. But the Pentax shall stay with me if I by chance should have the wish for or need to appear as a professional in certain circumstances.:D Well then, I'm off to send off one Pentax. Molto Bene signore!

Yes the much maligned 12-50 kit lens. It can produce excellent images , but in my hands not very consistently. I've yet to work out at what aperture and focal length is it's strengths. I've have though, had several decent images at 12mm and when clicked into the macro 43mm mode it can perform very well. I see from time to time the Oly 60mm macro which i believe does 1:1 which is super superb , but really the 12-50 has stopped me getting both the 12mm f2 and the 60mm macro, more that I am a skinflint than the optical performance. I've thought about getting one of those Samyang 12mm lenses as cost to performance is attractive.

Some pics with the 12-50mm f3.5 -6.3 kit lens

Beautiful images and a well documented fact that the lens is good, even "the great Huff" says so:D. Now it seems that the sweet spot as they call it is as always, aperture 8 and I would not have a problem with that. ( That's a working aperture on many lenses ). At 12 it is supposed to be at it's best Julian. And as I often ponder, when I want to place something in the foreground of things at wide angle, I use a a big "opening" so as to tell that the background is what it is; a background so to speak. I'll keep it and take it along as a backup for rainy days as well as macro, just to let the Pentax have a rest when I feel a little tired. My next venture shall be looking into the Olympus 17mm/f1,8 ( 34mm FF ). If so, there'll be a competition between the 25 and that one. As a street photographer mainly, them two as well as 45mm/f1,8 which I acquired yesterday shall be my arsenal in most cases. The 45mm/f1,8 is a cracker and so small and light as well as cheap, about 200 £ sterling in Norway. Really enjoy the Olympus, my Olé's.
Arrividerci signores.

Huff, is he full of puff ;).
I find as the MTF charts do that on the m4/3 16mb sensor that at f8 you are getting clearly into diffraction, unlike on 35mm film.
With the quarter size sensor comparison to the 35mm the depth of field exhibited at f4 is enough and diffraction does clearly start to kick in above f5.6 with such a small sensor with small pixels.

What I meant about the little 12-50 was, being a zoom it is harder to ascertain, quite where it's sweet spot is, I have noticed quite easily the long end 50mm is not as good as at the wider 12mm end. But even the same model of lens can have slight variations. But the is the lens which I place a ten stop ND filter on and take wobble pictures.

Well, I keep it as a stand by in cases like awful weather but still wortwhile to document. Apart from that, I was offered today a 14mm/f2,5 Lumix for 110 £ sterling. More interesting than the 17mm/f1,8 at double the price and which is too close to my 25mm. I think I'll go for the 14mm.

I had ordered the Fuji X100s for the 23mm(35mm) lens. I love fixed lens small cameras with larger sensors and do not have a 35mm view. The x100s purchase fell through, so took a look at the Olympus 17.f1.8. It does have snap focus which would be useful with the idea to use this focal length around the fishermen. The price is not tooooo bad here not as expensive as the 12mm f2. Second hand is an option with the price is even better as expected. Gave up and as yet not made a decision.
I had been looking at the lens you mention as well the, 14mm f2.5 and many users rave about it. But I'd forgotten that track, being equivalent too 28mm, I have the Dp1 Merrill which is 28mm. But maybe I'll I'll look round for a second hand version again and re consider it for the EM-5 , so good thinking magician.
I'd really like the new 12-40 pro f2.8 , a bit big though.

Well the 12-40 pro 2,8 is big, heavy and expensive I feel and an overkill for me. I know that the 14 lumix is a bit better than Olympus 17mm and offered me at this price, I just can't resist it. I have put it on the E-M 10 and it is as a little compact gem. A gem is normally green,- right? The 45mm/1,8 sits on the E-M5 now as the 25mm/1,4 is in that little pouch as well. That'll be my carry round arsenal on daily walks. The 75 - 300mm is tucked in at the bottom of the pouch. Pentax K30, well as the sun always shines here up north, I believe it'll relax a bit. I stroke it once every night though:D I can understand your reluctance towards 14mm Lumix since you have the Merrill. So maybe the Olympus 17mm/1,8 is a better bargain for you, and it is nice and neat.:)
