PLATE GLASS

Think it was a touch of plate glass. A retro look in NIK analogue .
Not certain but photography can be a very sentimental art form so why not splash it on.
It is certainly more attractive than the original.

Something seems out of kilter here. The look is there, but the feel isn't right. It might be the metal ladder (notice how I avoided the whole aluminum vs aluminium issue) :)

John good point the Alloy ladder is in a time warp, perhaps they are leaving the Tardis . I've no idea about these aluminum vs aluminium issues. Ah I get. it is that color vs colour and duck thingy

I did a quick search on Google and found a company called Aluminum Ladder Co. that claims to be the original maker of these ladders. According to them, the first ones were made in the 1930's. That's a bit too recent to fit the glass plate era. I find it interesting, while at the same time loving the look you got with the NIK filter.

Interesting Doug and thanks for the info. I wonder if it was one of those composites that was encouraged to be found from the war and need for light speed and flying. I used to be a bit of a purist and realised one day i aught to allow myself to have some fun and not take it all too seriously. Hence these Nik filters an misrepresentations of film can be fun can be creative and can be nostalgic as most of these analogue filter are .

I can definitely see the fun in using these filters. I've mostly stuck with b&w conversion and am now beginning to explore some of the other options. I didn't mean to imply there was anything wrong with the image. I found it interesting that I got that feeling from the photo and wondered if the ladder might be the reason. Everything else in the photo could easily be from a hundred years ago.

Filters? I thought he had found an old photo from his childhood days back in the thirties and obviously done through glass. I like it with its nostalgic look, done with the assistance of old nik.:D

No worries John i did not read it as criticism, more a critic which is always welcome and very help full. Even criticism I am comfortable with and it is healthy when deserved. I thought what you had to say was really beneficial and helpful so thank you.
I'll definitely play around with filters more from now and fully enjoy their promise.

Thirties eh! Cheeky Viking. I do believe I maybe the youngest contributor in this thread buy at least a dozen or more years. Also to boot this years birthday I am a year younger than I was last year, now work that one out ;)

I think I'm with John on this, Julian. Nice effect but not quite right for this image for some reason. Maybe the central areas is just tad too sharp to give the illusion.
Sharpeyed Pete. Yes never thought of that one Pete good to know and take forward to my next NIK venture
