PO

Never seen such beautiful pollution, which makes me question your political stance here. "More Pollution! Beautify The World!", etc. Tut, tut!
Well on June the 24th I felt extremely depressed, which still lingers. Your questions though bring up more values. I wonder if the tourists throw their rubbish into their hedges and roads. I'll answer that and say probably yes. The local council used to collect rubbish from the harbour and then decided it cost to much. The local bushinesses, ice cream parlours and chip shops were asked to contribute to the cost of the rubbish bin collection, they collectively refused. So the harbour decided to remove all bins and ask tourists to walk back to the shops with their rubbish were it would be taken back. Such things as chip rappers and the such. Guess what, they find other ways that are less tiresome than walking fifty meters and throw it in the harbour. Nowt to do with politics, just plain lazy ;)
Now if we sent these plastic bottles to the recycle centre they would end up in China where they turn the bottles into plastic kayaks and sell them back to us, who said communism was daft :D
I say photoshop not only makes thighs more consumable, it can make rubbish more colourful than it really is.

Now that is different. A beautiful image of a nasty subject.

Is it intended as a counterpoint to bad tourist pics of beautiful places? :)
I actually did not see it the way either yourself or Rob did, but now do. Yes there is a tourist slant in there somewhere, most definetly not locals who threw it there.

Well, my jesting aside, it has given me something to think about. It's so easy to make bad things look "cool" and beautiful, sexy even. As an abstract, yes, it does look beautiful. And I often look for, and find, beauty in ugly situations. So, I might have done something very similar. But if I'd come at it with a political eye, the image might have come out quite different, in fact I'm sure it would have. But which is the more meaningful? To search for beauty, or to highlight ugly?

Aesthetically the image works fine and colours are deceptive as in relation to reality. We should always look for beauty, but where to look is another cue and highly subjective. If highlighting the ugliness in order to deter as well as keep people from doing something stupid, - absolutely. Strangely enough, also authorities consist of humans and a certain human error is shown here I'd say in this tale from Julian. While many of us struggle to keep our environment free from all kinds of rubbish both at and in the sea as well as on land.

Rob can I answer that with this image, which suggests the permutations of my thoughts on most things.

Ah but in reality the colours are yes maybe accentuated , though not false.

Another beautiful image. I am reminded of the famous poem: "Oh, what a tangled web we weave. When first we practise to deceive!"
Ha well said. I used to have a dream where the lawn was mown and it was my task to put every cut blade of grass back together as it originally was. It was actually a nightmare as it seemed my life was dependent on being able to do this :(

What an interesting thread this is and what a great set of conversations - I wish I'd joined in earlier. But I do get the advantage of being able to look at the image through the lens of those comments and then it becomes an even more powerful commentary on litter, and the disposable culture.
