Rich blacks subtle grays like a Leica Monochrom for the price of chips ?

There was something about the early Fuji SuperCCD sensors.
I remember my Fuji S2 fondly deep rich blacks, subtle grays even with a kit lens Nikon 18-55vr.

Fuji 4800 was released 2001, the Mouse constant F2.8

Only 2MP but there was Witchcraft in those SuperCCD 2MPs
so long as stayed at base iso & printed max 8x6.

2MP of the 4800 could cope well with things that didnt have too much going on.
The sensor was 1/1.7" thus each pixel was large.
I hope the last photo shows the subtleties of gray this silver druid could do.

Later models 6800, 6900, 610, 810 all retained the SuperCCD with increases in MP.
The 602 was a bridge camera benefitting from Compact Flash whilst these listed here were SmartMedia.

EDIT : these images were put through LightRoom3 with added clarity, contrast.
LR3 brought out what the sensor already had.

Lovely images Ahmad. Loads of atmosphere and nice conversion.

I had an S2 Pro (hated the menus and handling - given away now) and still have two S5 Pros. These were much better and make good technical cameras on top of microscopes. I had an M603 (still have actually) and that is a wonderful little camera. Must get a new battery and give it an outing.

I had the S602z and the later S7000 - superb cameras and both still going strong with their current owners!

I won one of my first camera club print competitions with a 3mp landscape off the 602 - printed at 16x12"

Thank you kindly Rob, Brian, Pete.

S2 was my first digital slr im trying to recall why i didnt keep, i think because the mirror sound in quite places.
Just shooting jpegs was such a relief. I liked that the LCD was hopeless for reviewing photos, as it made me try to get exposure right first time.
I used to get by just on CR12As even though it also needed AA.
