Shrovetide

Over the Tuesday and Wednesday Ashbourne celebrate shrovetide with the annual Upards and downards Game.

The game last for 8 hours a day, and is played thoroughout the streets and fileds and housing estates of Ashbourne, no rules but no murder allowed. Its just mad a heaving crowd of Asbournes finest, doing combat.
A great spectacle.

Excellent! Shrovetide Football still lives. Wait,...I thought the objective was to propell the skull of a Roman or a Viking (sorry @Ivar D. Larsen) through the streets,...or was that just circa 900 A.D.?

Amazing images, Nick. I'd love to be there someday to experience the madness. (Viewing from a safe location, of course.)

Was there any beer involved? :D

Let me be as frank as to say, that all the misbehaving Vikings came from Sweden!!!
