Soderberg Express

Taken looking out I guess. Love the grittiness of these, Rob. The sign, pram pusher and Big Issue (with arrow) make a very good composition I think. I also like the shadowy character (with bag) scurrying out of the frame. In the second, I like the way Susan is apparently looking towards the arrow. Or is she drawn to that beacon of temptation?! A damned fine pair.

Cheers, Pete. It's nice to be in the mood to take photos again. These were the first two of the roll. We were in a very unfriendly French restaurant, or rather the bar below it. I don't think we'll be back. Happy with the shots, though.

Saw a book about Philip Larkin's photography, and really thought about buying it, but I'll wait for a gift voucher at Christmas. I can wait! He was very serious about his photography, and good at it. He would have been happy here :-) He mainly used a Rollei, shooting b&w, ordinary shots, you might say, and all the better for it. Some really excellent ones, and many very normal and full of interest.
What I particularly liked is how a photograph might have stimulated a poem, and there are a few references to photography in his works. Or how he would take an image to remind him of a line or two he thought of, without having a pen to hand. It made me wonder if I could give it a try, but soon realised it is very hard to use a chisel against sludge...
