Storm in a cup - initial test shot

Hi all,

I tried this evening to try and get a shot for the theme 'storm in a cup' basically ive noticed that when I make tea or coffee, when the milk is added it created amazing shapes and it mixes in which I am trying to capture.

Just tried an initial shot which didn't really work out very well, for some reason the camera chose ISO 2200 in a brightly lit kitchen when in aperture mode with the widest setting on the lens....odd.

Anyhow, here is just an initial very noisy image, I need to brew it darker and add less milk next time and maybe set up a tripod lol but I will try a few shots again soon.

I guess the idea came to me today for the photo as I have been working on some Guinness work and the beer takes some time to settle giving the same sort of thing, but being british I of course instinctivly thought of tea lol :D

I have managed to get some shots I am a bit happier with, here are is a developing storm in a cup:

I think this one needs cropping a bit more

That first one is getting there. How about using a glass and lighting it through the sides while shooting down?

I will have a go, ideally I would use a glass tea cup but don't have one of those lol

A noce idea David ... I quite like the first one with the "tea" and "coffee" pots... Gives it some context...
i wouldn't go down the glass route, I would go down the natural setting route and try and capture the "storm" in its natural setting ... Maybe with a spoon in shot ... That sorta thing ... Capture the moment, even if the moment is staged... If you know what I mean?
There is somthing about that moment first thing in the morning as your watching the milk whirl around ... My brain is often doing much the same thing as it tries desperately to get a grasp of the day ahead.

i like the setup on the first tea photo. looks like the shot is coming along nicely.

Thanks Beth, yeah the first shot was setup so that I could get a shot of the idea, the posts from today are from the 'toy' shoot this morning and typically it did exactly what I wanted but not in the setting I planned lol.
