Critique Welcomed Street Photography: Fat Man Style

People with extra long lenses "sniping" images of people from afar annoy me. They annoy me especially when they're doing so while seated on their fat arses.

Rob's probably got it right. There's probably a little boy or girl centered in the image. Or, to give him the benefit of the doubt, a pretty young woman. Then again, he might be a very nice person and I'm the arsehole for judging him based on a photo.

True. We are judging based on very limited information. At least he is out and about and pursuing a fine hobby (one hopes). And also here we see the dilemma of all street photography; context, invasion, judgement, humour. I intend no criticism of the image (which is fine and works in so many ways), nor the photographer (who of course knows far more about the image than we do and who's judgment and skill I admire immensely). But it does raise some interesting points again, and ones we've discussed before. Thanks, Brain.

Absolutely right, Pete. I voiced my assumptions. I could be very wrong. (I'm thinking now about the discussion several of us engaged in a few years ago regarding Errol Morris's book on the ability of the photographic image to deceive.)

And thanks for the kind words, Pete.

All: Thanks for the comments!

I met my neighbour occasionally, he never seemed to greet me as we passed. I really did not know him much and I really did not wanted to much. So one day, he stood by my fence as if he needed a rest, I thought I'd talk to him at best. He turned around as I approached and asked a simple thing. Who are you my friend, I'm sorry but my visions got so mean. He never recognised me before as his neighbour and I, the great fool that I am, judged him sourly. This happened many years ago and ever since I steadily say to myself. Don't judge anyone, you never know what battle they fight. But judging an image I guess we all can do, but be careful, we are judged too.
