The Remains II

This I love Pete, not certain why. Possibly like the other in the set which i remarked on. The order works and the outside coming inside via the light is pretty good to me. Slightly Hopperesq , a figure less one with mono colour. ( so maybe not Hopperesq.)

Ah, now there's the couch that made the mark on the other wall. And that is a much more useful lamp for reading the paper. It's not facing the other picture, as that one does not have a window to let in the light. Here, the curtains are drawn, allowing only a trace of light to play on the wall.

Overall, there is definitely a sense of someone having put their life in order, both life and room being restrained and ordered. But the title hints that they might have moved on to another place, or just moved on, so to speak.

The light on the wall are souls leaving this room where they spent much time in solitary.:D This environment could easily portray a room where an old man like me visited old folks, when being young. This is presumably from a museum or a part of a German living room from the forties / fifties.

Oh, alright then.

This is the house of Ina's mother, in Lower Saxony. Her mother was finding it increasingly difficult to manage on her own and so we have now helped her move into sheltered accommodation near us in Potsdam. A difficult move given that she was born in the village in Lower Saxony, has lived in the same village all her life until now and has lived in this house for over 50 years.

These are the rooms after some furniture was removed to take to her new home. The Remains I is the small sitting room she used every day. The picture, sofa and armchair etc have all been removed for transport and these are the remnants, and the witness marks of what was there. The 'book' is the local paper sits where her brother had left it the morning we set off - I assume it is still sitting there (I'll find out in a few weeks time).

The image above is of the 'good' living room - the one nobody uses! The sofa has always been there and the pattern on the wall is from the ceiling lamp. In both rooms the shutters are closed and the only light is from the ceiling fitments. The sense of orderly abandon is what struck me. A pausing of breath of the house.

As reference, these show the place and provide a bit more context I hope.

Well, I wasn't a million miles away. Good shots, Pete, and I can feel your emotion when taking them. We are in a similar situation with Susan's mum. Difficult time.
