The Swing Has Company

Now that is just plain gorgeous. The colours are perfect and the mist lends just the right touch of desolation. Wonderful shot Julian.
Thank you Pete. I was hoping I wasn't going to view it in the morning and wonder why I had posted it. I do like the way mist defuses the light.

Yes, I love this too. So gentle in declaring its presence, like there is a hush around it. Probably just the sound of the waves. Very nice atmospheric shot, Julian.

Brilliant, brilliant shot Julian.
There really is an atmosphere here and the colouring is beautiful. That structure seems to take on a life of it's own and a human presence would have done this image no favours at all. The way the lovely curve of the slide disappears into the sand is a highlight for me. And the absence a "good" sky is a real bonus in this case..

Thank you Tom, I very much appreciate what you say.

As a latecomer to this review, it's ten minutes after midnight, and all there is to be said of praise has already been said, I can only cheer on what tom and the rest have said. As much as I admire it all I also have to say that this camera intrigues me to an extent that no longer can be ignored it seems. Cheers Julian.

Thank you Ivor. For the sake of your pockets my recommendation is to ignore the camera or any camera .

Lovely muted colors, Julian. I need one of those cameras!
Thanks Brian. I could imagine you enjoying either the 1 or 2 depending on the focal length you prefer. It is such a simple camera albeit a bit of a pain as far as the software on the computer is concerned. I am fully used to it an actually do not mind at all now.

Thank you Julian, you are of course right in regard to cameras. I now have two, sold all the others and if I or anyone else is not capable of being content with that, I should possibly go and examine my head. Today I'm covering from 28 to 305 with two lenses and a 35mm prime..have a nice sunday.

What Julian says is my experience also. When you first get the camera and software, both need a little attention, but after a short while you don't think about these things. If you like the experience of shooting with film cameras, but like the convenience of digital, then these DP Merrills are worthy of your consideration. Especially at the lower prices.

OK then mates. One more question as I consider the DP1 Merrill I think it's called. The one with an approximate 19mm/f2,8. Here in this country it's being sold at the lowest brand new for £356 English sterling. If I do, my intention is to use that one, the xe1 with a 35mm and the other xe1 with 55-200 as a carry on. Or am I fooling myself again?

The image will be very different to what you get from the Fuji. Not better or worse, of course, just different. I think you've seen enough images from the Merrills on this forum to make your own decision about whether the quality of image is what you could work with. I like it enough to have traded my Fuji - but I would still like an X100s one day!

Yes I have seen enough to say I like it's colours but not to rid myself of the xe1 for that one., but to add it to the arsenal maybe. But I probably should be content with less. Thanks Rob.

I'd never like to feel any responsibility for another's decisions in such matters. Yet if I can be of any help, yes I'd not ideally have it as my only camera, these other camera's mentioned have a whole other side to offer which betters the Sigma's. Speed low light and so on. Yet now, knowing what I know I'd have it as my first choice even with the limitations it brings if push came to shove. (possibly :D)

That settles it then. I still shall have to think, about money, need, greed and lust and see what ditch I fall into. No one mentioned though whether the Norsy price was acceptable. I'll mention it again; £ 356 done, brand new including 2 batteruies and a charger, presented on my doorstep. Now all I have to do is to plead, and wait for the Lotto. I still like that picture up above and its colours you know.
