It was a book by John Buchan, Sick Heart River, which I and the thumbosaur thoroughly enjoyed, the religious overtones of the final chapter notwithstanding. Worth a read, with some stunning Canadian landscape passages. I have a small collection of Buchan’s books, some - as here - first editions.
