This one of the main towers of Rumelihisarı is situated at the narrowest point with 660 meters of the Bosphorus strait, just opposite of Anadoluhisarı on the Anatolian side. It was built by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II in 1452, before he conquered Constantinople. With the help of thousands of masons and workers, the fortress was completed in a record time of 4 months and 16 days on 31 August 1452.
Oh... this is just superb Nihat! I must have been past here because we did the Bosphorus trip. I mean, the one meant for locals that stops every ten minutes or so. I think we went almost up to the Black Sea
Thank you very much, Lesley. You probably did. Istanbul is so dense that you can easily miss things. I'd love to photograph Istanbul for a year, and would probably still miss many details. 3+ civilizations 1 location.
I think, you've had such a lovely tour, Lesley.

Thank you very much, Pete.
This place is open as a museum. When I visited in 2008, this tower was closed due to safety issues.
