Township...

A short drive over the hills to Elgin yesterday found me passing this group of old croft buildings just a few miles from home.

I've always wanted to stop here and capture them, and yesterday was "dull and dreich"...50 shades of Scottish winter grey...my type of weather..

Cheers folks...this is an incredibly huge, empty landscape which once "teemed" with human life...now sadly empty...

Not only did it lose population during the "clearances", it's estimated that several hundred gave their lives during the 1914-18 war.

A place to go and contemplate ones existence...

The tone on this is really nice. There is a lovely softness, also, perhaps due to the lens.

I can only say I like the tones, how you placed the township in the image and the white strings of light supposedly snow in the foreground there Douglas, but not till I enlarged it on Flickr. On my monitor it looked a little small. Wonder how it would look in plain bl+wh.
