Unusual for me!

Not sure going around in the morning to discuss with her what she wants. The problem is her work is all a little abstract to put in realistic situations. the piece above sold for over £2000 and it was ordered from the photo which I had dumped on facebook for the festival. (at there request)

I would be tempted to use a plain background with a coloured soft spot lighting all or part of the background, in a complementary colour to the ceramic. That way all you need change is the light and the object.

The more complicated the object the simpler the background.

Just a thought...

Dave, you may find that the artist may want you to mimic her shop displays, for me I'd advise a simple light backdrop with as Adrian suggests a soft light to define between backdrop and subject, may be a single light cast across would do it. i think it might be important to ensure there is some shadow on the piece to ensure its full dimension is explored and defined.

I would certainly have a look at how other artists have displayed and had photos done. Research first, :)
