Voigtländer 12mm f1:5.6 VM Super Wide Heliar

As promised elsewhere, here are a couple of shots taken using a Voigtländer 12mm f1:5.6 VM Super Wide Heliar mounted on a Leica M9. The first was taken in Athens and the second in Mykonos. PP (quickly using urban preset only) in LR.

Ive seen some of these before i think ... i thought you had said the cat on the wall was the 12mm?
i love the distortion in the first one ... have you noticed me talking about doing some architectural stuff? well its that lens i want to use, with a play on the distortion ... since i cant afford t/s i might as well work with the reasons i want one ... if that makes sence?

You're right Hamish, it's the 12mm of course and I've corrected the thread. As I said elsewhere, I've been doing accounts all day and my brain has stopped working it seems!

The 15mm might just be that bit easier to shoot with. I don't have too much trouble with external VF's but dynamic range can be a real headache in some shots.

Thanks Vic. I wasn't especially pleased with any of them which is why I didn't spend any time on editing them. The lens arrived just before I left for Greece so I threw it in to play with. I really need to spend some more time with it and these were just the first few experiments. They were taken at the end of the day in the few hours after the meetings had ended and sunset so the conditions were bested suited to such a WA lens. I need to spend some more time with I think.

This shows the VF fitted and also the lens cap which has the nice little detail in that when it is fitted such that the catches are accessible between the flanges of the fixed lens hood, the name is aligned horizontally.

must have bought the lens from Robert White ...

I did indeed. They are very good filters and with the exception of the odd Nikon and Hasselblad (made by Schneider / B+W anyway) they are the only ones I buy these days. They really have virtually no impact on image quality and I tend to use them (and UV / IR for the M8) on lenses that get used heavily outside. Except for technical reasons, I never user filters in the studio / lab.

By the way, sitting on my desk I have a Voightländer Nokton Classic 40mm f1:1.4 SC that just arrived (with B+W filter, ordered yesterday afternoon from Jack at you-know-who!). I thought a low contrast lens might be worth a try (I was actually jealous of your nice old lenses but too lazy to track some down on eBay!! ).

id be very interested to see how you get on with that! sounds like a good excuse to by a leica cl minolta cle or even better an R3a (with 1:1 vf )... I might send you my 35mc at some point if you would be interested? iD like to see some comparisons between mc and sc lenses from CV

Thanks Darren. I really do need to use this lens more as I haven't really gelled with it yet and it deserves better.
