Watameter rangefinder for vintage cameras

Has anyone ever used one of these devices?

I notice a few are on eBay - Watameter Rangefinder

Looks interesting. I have add-on rangefinders on a few of my field technical cameras although these are couple via a cam to the focusing rack. Similar principle though. You are obviously dependent on the accuracy of the distance scales on your lens and the two optics on the range-finder are quite close together so I guess it won't be very accurate beyond about 50 mm. Might be worth a try though.

I tend to prefer rangefinders inside larger bright viewfinders and coupled to the camera

That said, this sort of thing can give confidence if you are unsure about guessing distance
