I am reminded of the quote,..."So this is America?"
I used to play on a football (soccer) team with Gerry Ingram, who had played for a few professional teams. (Gerry had been a forward for Bradford City, Preston North End, and several other sides, including some over here in the US of A; hard as nails on the pitch, so he was, but in the pub, after several brews, he would often metamorphose into a raconteur and entertainer par excellence.) Anyway, during his playing days for one of the American professional teams Gerry brought his dad over to the US for a holiday. Flew him directly into Las Vegas from England. Gerry's dad had never been to the US. After a day or two in Las Vegas Gerry heard his dad muse aloud,..."So this is America?"
I love your Texas vignettes, Steve. And when I see them I often think of Gerry's dad's musing.
