Woodpecker in the Snow

I really shouldn't try wildlife shots as I only have the one short, kit zoom with the Sony. I do like to record what comes into our garden though and I thought you might like to see what I got on Sunday. The woodpeckers are regular visitors, but they are very wary - even if we are indoors. This was taken through a grubby downstairs window during a gloomy snow storm. I daren't crop it any further, but at least you can see his colours. I've done the deer, badgers, foxes and most of the birds. I think I only have the weasels, the greater spotted woodpeckers and the snakes/lizards to go...

Despite the limitations I like the shot Lesley, especially with the context of the snow etc.

Now, lizards in the snow I would pay good money to see!

I don't know about lizards, but when I spent a few hours next door a couple of years ago I found a worm on top of the snow. I warmed him up in my gloves and popped him in the earth at the base of some trees. I can only think he had been dropped by a passing bird...

Nice one Lesley, we don't see that many Green Woodpeckers up in the North-east so I'll have to make do with the Great Spotted Woodpeckers.
